There are times when you know you have to address a patient's fear avoidance and maladaptive beliefs in order to make a difference in their pain and function. Sometimes you can try your best with many different ways of modulating pain, changing perception and reconceptualizing the patient's core beliefs about their issues. You can try your best, and talk patients out of scans... but on occasion, they're correct and they do need the MRI.
