Pain Science Education is one of the best things to ever happen to the rehab profession. I remember just how eye opening and mind blowing David Butler's first Explain Pain course was in 2002. Yes, I took it 17 years ago. I remember thinking, this is going to change EVERYTHING!

It did and it didn't. I've been using many of the metaphors, stories, research snippets, and other ways in my approach to patient education and interaction since then. My experience is that those who need it the most, are those who respond the least or are the most skeptical, close minded, or downright upset over your so called "explanations."
I still recommend taking some version of pain science course, if only to learn how to dispell myths and make patient less dependent on passive quick fixes. You'll do all of us a favor who are trying to get patients back to function, not reliant on adjustments, massage, needling etc.
