Blogcast Wednesdays! Sliders vs Tensioners
As manually oriented clinicians, we all want to "stretch" out tissues, joints, and even the nervous system. When we do these things we are not really lengthening the structures, but we are changing movement tolerance and threat perception.
Do you put out a fire with more fire? Of course not, this is also why you should not start out using neurodynamic tensioners and start with sliders instead. During one of the first Explain Pain courses ever in the USA, Butler stated you start with sliders with people in chronic pain, now we know it's better off to start with sliders for ANYONE in pain, just to be safe.
