A follow up to one of those WTF studies, literally! The first study showed participants who swore were able to tolerate the dreaded ice bath test normally used for pain tolerance.
This follow up took it further and looked at not only swearing, but using neutral words, and also at differences in subjects who swore often and did not swear regularly. I guess the take home lesson for acute pains is try to to swear regularly, and save it for the painful emergencies!
