Physician Opposition to Direct Access
Via Physical Therapy Diagnosis
When I started practicing in 1998, it seemed like New York State would NEVER get Direct Access to patient care. Seemed ridiculous at the time when massage therapists, and personal trainers had it. We had direct access to evaluation, but not treatment! How much sense does that make? Research repeatedly shows direct access costing insurance companies less while utilization improves. If you have the time, watch the entire video, it's sad and unfortunate for patients who are tied to seeing a gatekeeper that in many cases can only direct them to someone else who can help for their neuromusculoskeletal complaints. Good luck to Florida in their quest for the patient's RIGHT to access their practitioner of choice!
