Some great points in the post!1) not testing anyone lower than 4/5 for upper trap strength who wasn't neurologically impaired 2) not testing anyone 4/5 or above for mid and lower trap strength.
This is a near universal muscle findings due to common muscle imbalances. I recommend using these releases to help with the aforementioned imbalances.

pec minor release
occiput release
subcranial shear
and of course the upper trap/levator scapula release!

These are "go to" areas or patterns of dysfunction that most of your patients will present with. Whether they have cervical dysfunction, derangement, shoulder impingement, cervical radiculopathy, or peripheral neuropathic pain.
